Oakton College is continuing campus improvement projects including those outlined in our recently approved facilities master plan, which will result in transformed spaces that create an optimal learning and working environment for students and employees.

Latest Update: Aug. 26, 2025

As work continues on exterior lighting upgrades at the Des Plaines campus, the following areas are scheduled to be closed to vehicles and pedestrians (weather permitting).

  • The north half of parking lot A will be closed from Aug. 26 through Sept. 9 - highlighted in green

As work continues on exterior lighting upgrades at the Skokie campus, the following areas are scheduled to be closed to vehicles and pedestrians (weather permitting):

Note: All entrances are expected to remain open during construction.

  • The east half of the Lincoln Lot will be closed from Aug. 28 - Sept. 10 - highlighted in pink

  • The Des Plaines campus Library and Learning Center have moved to their temporary location in the TenHoeve wing (1600 rooms). The TenHoeve Rooms at the Des Plaines campus will be unavailable for events and meetings until Dec. 31, 2025.
  • The Des Plaines Testing Center has moved into its permanent home in Suite 1830 (near the Enrollment Center) and is now open.
  • The Des Plaines Access and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) office has moved to its permanent home in Suite 1820 and is now open.
  • The Division of Student Affairs has temporarily re-located to Room 2817.

Des Plaines and RHC (Skokie) Campus Exterior Lighting Upgrades

Work is expected to begin in early July, resulting in rolling closures of parking lots and walkways (see top of page), restricting access to vehicle and pedestrian classes for various time durations.

Des Plaines Library Learning Commons

The mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) rough-in is ongoing and is expected to continue for several months. Painting of walls is ongoing. The installation of ceilings is ongoing. Tile work for restrooms is completed. Preparation for the installation of flooring is ongoing. Elevator modernization work is scheduled to begin in early September.

The Facilities department is working with the contractor to start construction on Phase 1, which entails repairs/ replacements of exterior doors at the Des Plaines and Skokie campuses. All entrances will remain open during construction. If the need to temporarily close an entrance arises, the Facilities department will notify the campus community in advance.

Student Affairs, Information Technology and Access and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) Office Renovations (Des Plaines)
